The Master Program in Food Science and Technology (MFST) organized a New Student Orientation for the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year on Thursday, 5 January 2026. The event was held offline in Room 514 at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and also conducted in a hybrid format via Google Meet. This activity was jointly organized with the Master Program in Estate Crop Product Technology (MECPT) and the Doctoral Program in Food Science (DFS) as part of the introduction to the graduate academic environment in the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (DFAPT).

A total of 17 new students of the S2 ITP program participated in the orientation, which aimed to introduce the academic system, research culture, and support students in their initial adaptation to the graduate study environment. In addition, the activity served as an opportunity to build early communication between students, program management, and the academic community within the department.

The event was guided by the Program Secretary of the MFST Program, Dr. Qurrotul A’yun, S.T.P., M.Sc., who welcomed the new students and introduced the agenda of the session. The opening remarks were delivered by the Head of the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tyas Utami, M.Sc., who expressed her hope that students would go through their academic journey with enthusiasm and a positive mindset. She also encouraged students to make the most of their study period and complete their education on time. She emphasized that the department remains open as a space for communication and discussion throughout the students’ academic journey.

The next remarks were delivered by the Secretary of the DFAPT, Dr. Dwi Larasatie Nur Fibri, S.T.P., M.Sc., who motivated students to actively communicate with lecturers and program administrators whenever they encounter challenges during their coursework or research.

The session continued with an introduction to the department and study programs by Dr. Arima Diah Setiowati, who presented information on postgraduate lecturers, laboratory facilities within the DFAPT, and various academic opportunities available to students. These include student mobility programs, field trips, and community service activities. This session provided a comprehensive overview of the academic and research environment that will support students throughout their studies.

The Head of the MFST Program, Dr. Widiastuti Setyaningsih, S.T.P., M.Sc., then presented the curriculum structure and study pathway that students will follow during their program. She also extended a warm welcome to the new students and encouraged them to stay motivated, maintain their health, and enjoy the learning process. She emphasized the importance of good time management to ensure that students can complete their studies effectively.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, which reflected the students’ enthusiasm in understanding the academic system and research process within the program. Through this discussion, students gained an initial understanding of the study pathway, research implementation, and various academic support systems available within the TPHP Department.

Through this orientation activity, the Master’s Program in Food Science and Technology reaffirms its commitment to creating a supportive and collaborative academic environment from the very beginning of the study period. It is expected that new students will be able to adapt well, engage fully in the learning process, and produce high-quality research throughout their graduate studies.
